About the Job

The Division of Laboratory Science (DLS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently seeking recent graduates (BS, MS, PhD) for laboratory research fellowship positions (1-4 yr term) in Atlanta, Georgia. The DLS (www.cdc.gov/dls/) quantifies human exposure to environmental toxicants using advanced analytical methods and a state-of-the-art laboratory facility. The positions involve the application and potentially development of analytical methods using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, ICP-MS (quadrupole, dynamic reaction / collision cell) for the analysis of trace elements in different biological matrixes (e.g. blood, urine, serum). Some positions will also involve high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-ICP-MS) and gas chromatography (GC-ICP-MS). Candidates should hold a degree in the analytical or clinical sciences (Chemistry preferred), be less than 5 years from graduation, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have strong laboratory and computer skills. In addition, experience with maintaining and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation, quantitative method development, implementation of quality control (e.g. CLIA ’88), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is desirable.
