Currently, we are interviewing candidates for an opening as a Research Fellow in our laboratory. The available post graduate position is an ORISE (Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education) fellowship, managed by ORAU (Oak Ridge Associated Universities). You can find more information about ORISE and its relationship with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at www.orau.gov/cdc/.
The focus of our research is the assessment of human exposure to environmental chemicals by measuring their concentrations in human tissues. Specifically, in our group we measure phthalates, bisphenol A and other environmental phenols, and organic fluorochemicals. These compounds are used in multiple commercial applications including personal care products, surfactants, lubricants, paints, polishes, food packaging, and fire-retarding foams. Increased concern exists regarding the toxicity of these compounds in humans. We are part of the Division of Laboratory Sciences housed at the National Center for Environmental Health at the CDC. For more information about our Division̢۪s activities, please go to www.cdc.gov/nceh/dls .
His/her main duties will involve the preparation of biological samples (including urine and serum) to be analyzed for some of these chemicals. The fellow will also get hands-on experience on analytical techniques such as HPLC and tandem mass spectrometry.
If you are interested please email your resume to Dr. Kayoko Kato (ktk2@cdc.gov) for consideration.
