The Georgia Tech Pre-Pharmacy Student Association will be hosting its first general meeting of the fall semester this Thursday, September 5, at 7PM in IC Room 217. We will also be voting on T-shirt designs during this meeting. Please come join us and learn what GT PPSA is all about! There will be food, so make sure to bring your friends and anyone else that is interested in pharmacy. :)

Stamps Health Services Ambassadors

To current and prospective Pre-Health students,

Be a part of Stamps Health Services Ambassadors to further your experience in any Pre-Health field.  We offer clinics and volunteer opportunities for students to build relationships with doctors and to connect them with other students in the Pre-Health field.  SHS Ambassadors also offers a mentorship program with various physicians at Stamps Health Services on campus for upperclassman.

GT Student Hospital Connections General Orientation- Thursday, August 22nd @ 7pm!

To current and prospective Pre-Health students alike: do you want exposure to the field of medicine but don't know how to get started? How about weekly shuttle rides to local hospitals or opportunities to meet with medical professionals?

GT Student Hospital Connections offers all that and more! A student-run Pre-Med organization, GT SHC sets up volunteering opportunities at Grady Memorial Hospital and Atlanta Medical Center. Interviews and orientations are conducted on campus and weekly transportation is provided for those who require it. Not only do we provide medical exposure, but also offer further opportunities to explore the field with guest speakers, chance to interact with other Pre-Health students, and more!

1. General orientation will take place in Klaus 1456 at 7:00pm on Thursday, August 22nd. The orientation is open to anyone who wants to learn about GT SHC. We strongly encourage attending the orientation to anyone who plans to volunteer through SHC for the first time.
2. Online membership application will be posted at the GT SHC site ( http://gtshc.weebly.com/) at 5pm on Wednesday, August 21st. Application is due by 11:59 p.m. August 23rd.
3. Accepted members will be notified by 5pm on Sunday, August 25th regarding on-campus interviews with the volunteering directors from Grady Memorial Hospital and Atlanta Medical Center.

GT Student Hospital Connections offers all that and more! A student-run

pre-med organization, GT SHC sets up volunteers at Grady Memorial

require it. Not only do we provide medical exposure, but also offer

further opportunities to explore the field with guest speakers,

invitations to conferences, and more!

1. Volunteer applications are now posted on the GT SHC site (

http://gtshc.weebly.com/), but will not open online until August 20th.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. August 24th. Applications are

required for both new and returning members.

2. General orientation will be on August 30th at 7:00 p.m in Boggs B6.

3. Be sure to come early as there are limited spots available for

members needing transportation from us. Please line up outside the door

in order of your arrival. We will still accept those people who have

their own means of transportation to the hospitals.

4. Dues for Grady will be $25 (for those needing shuttle rides) and

$15 (for those providing their own transportation.) Dues for AMC will

be $50 (for those needing shuttle rides) and $30 (for those providing

their own transportation.)

5. Grady volunteering is a one-semester commitment, whereas AMC

volunteering is a two-semester commitment. Please take this into

consideration when you sign up.

Surgical Research Summer Internship

We are excited to announce that the UNCF Special Programs Corporation (UNCFSP) will accept applications for the US Army Institute for Surgical Research (USAISR) Summer Internship Program.  The application will be open until March 16, 2012.
Aim of the project:
The goal of the project is to provide undergraduate students exposure to both laboratory and clinical trauma research. The project will expose students to:

• Requirements-driven combat casualty care medical solutions and products for injured soldiers from self-aid through definitive care across the full spectrum of military operation;
• State-of-the-art trauma, burn, and critical care to Department of Defense beneficiaries around the world and civilians in their trauma region; and
• Burn Special Medical Augmentation Response Teams.

At the end of the placement, interns will be required to author, prepare and present their research findings.

Eligibility:

• U.S. Citizen
• Full-time undergraduate junior or senior
• Science major (preferably biology, chemistry, pre-medical/dental/veterinary)
• 3.3 on a scale of 4.0 GPA

Project Components:
10-week (June 4, 2012 – August 10, 2012) summer research program at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command in Ft. Sam Houston, TX

Available Award:
Financial: $4,000 plus travel and housing for a 10-week summer research experience
