UG researchers - SURC adbstracts due November 1.

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Tennessee Knoxville will be hosting the 46th ACS Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC) on Jan. 30 and 31, 2014. Abstracts are due by Nov. 1st, 2013. Please encourage your chemistry undergraduate students to attend and present their research.

A tentative conference program is attached.  Students will have the opportunity to give an oral presentation or present a poster, tour the department, and attend a Keynote Lecture and Awards Banquette.  A total of $2,500 monetary awards will be given to best presentation(s) and poster(s) in each area of chemistry. Graduate recruiting booths will be available all day on Friday Jan. 31st

With generous support from our sponsors, we are able to reduce the conference registration to $10/student and $0 for minority students. We are also providing up to $200/person travel support for first 10 minority students who submit their abstracts.

Sigma Xi Grants & Research/Poster Presentation

STUDENT RESEARCH GRANTS
Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society is now accepting student grant applications through the Grant-in-Aid of Research Program.  Applications are accepted in all fields of science and engineering.  The application deadline is October 15, 2013 for awards to be disbursed in January 2014.

CALL FOR STUDENT PRESENTATIONS
Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to share their research through poster presentations at the Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and International Research Conference on November 8th and 9th in the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.  Abstracts accepted in all fields of science and engineering with awards given for outstanding presentations.  A full announcement is included below.

The Tower's Call for Submissions - Fall 2012

Are you looking to take the first step in getting published in a research journal? Craving a peer-reviewed, first-author publication?
Spruce up your resume and submit to The Tower, Georgia Tech’s premiere undergraduate research journal, by midnight, Monday, October 1, 2012, in order to be considered for the Fall 2012 issue. You can submit at http://gttower.org/submit! Extensions of up to 1 month are given on a case-by-case basis on the condition that you contact us before October 1.
We are currently accepting submissions from all majors in all of our accepted publication formats:
  • Abstracts – one page summary of research project with 1 figure
  • Articles -- culmination of a research project
  • Synopsis articles -- for work already published in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Perspectives -- does not need experimental data, rather provides a viewpoint in the current progress of one's field, should elaborate on own efforts as well
  • Dispatches -- similar to a communication or brevia, this format is a shorter research article for undergraduates earlier in their research project/career

ACS Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference

We would like to invite your undergraduate students to attend the 44th Annual ACS Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC). The meeting is being hosted by the Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University and the Mississippi Chapter ofthe ACS. The 2012 Conference will be held April 12 and 13 in Starkville Mississippi. Students will have an opportunity to give an oral presentation or a poster and toattend a Keynote Lecture and Awards Banquette. Monetary awards will be given to the two best presentations and posters in each of the five areas of chemistry. Graduate recruiting booths will be available all day on Friday April 13. Abstracts are due by March 21, 2012. Additional information regarding registration, accommodations, and abstract submission will be available after January 9 at chemistry.msstate.edu/conference/surc.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Dear Future SURC-2011 participant,

Please place Thursday and Friday, April 7-8, 2011 on your calender as the date of the 43rd annual Southeast Regional ACS Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC). This year the conference will be held at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. SURC is strictly for undergraduates. The deadline for abstracts is March 25, 2011. Please see the SURC2011 website for more information: http://cost.georgiasouthern.edu/chemistry/surc/index.htm. Both oral talks and posters will be presented at SURC. Please indicate with your submission if the paper is to be an oral presentation, or a poster. The registration cost is $40/participant.
