Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society is now accepting student grant applications through the Grant-in-Aid of Research Program.  Applications are accepted in all fields of science and engineering.  The application deadline is October 15, 2013 for awards to be disbursed in January 2014.

CALL FOR STUDENT PRESENTATIONS

Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to share their research through poster presentations at the Sigma Xi Annual Meeting and International Research Conference on November 8th and 9th in the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.  Abstracts accepted in all fields of science and engineering with awards given for outstanding presentations.  A full announcement is included below.

SpaceUp Atlanta is an "unconference" totally dedicated to anything and everything about space! As an unconference, SpaceUp encourages full immersion of the attendees who are able to decide the topics and overall structure and even participate by starting discussions, moderating a panel, or giving a talk on a subject. SpaceUp Atlanta will be an event for space enthusiasts all around Georgia of every capacity, from students to teachers to professionals, to form an amazing, interactive space community like no other.

SpaceUp Atlanta-Saturday, October 6th!!!

We are inviting you to SpaceUp Atlanta during World Space Week on Saturday Oct. 6th!

SpaceUp Atlanta is a space unconference, where participants decide the topics, schedule, and structure of the event. Unconferences have been held about technology, science, transit, and even cupcakes, but this is the first one focused on space exploration, science, STEM and anything about space.

Everyone who attends SpaceUp is encouraged to give a talk, moderate a panel, or start a discussion. You will be amazed at what comes out of SpaceUp. We hope to gather students, teachers, space professionals, and enthusiasts in the greater Atlanta region to foster a grassroots space community.

ACS Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference

We would like to invite your undergraduate students to attend the 44th Annual ACS Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC). The meeting is being hosted by the Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University and the Mississippi Chapter ofthe ACS. The 2012 Conference will be held April 12 and 13 in Starkville Mississippi. Students will have an opportunity to give an oral presentation or a poster and toattend a Keynote Lecture and Awards Banquette. Monetary awards will be given to the two best presentations and posters in each of the five areas of chemistry. Graduate recruiting booths will be available all day on Friday April 13. Abstracts are due by March 21, 2012. Additional information regarding registration, accommodations, and abstract submission will be available after January 9 at chemistry.msstate.edu/conference/surc.

2011 Georgia Tech Global Leadership Conference.

My name is Yash Ghogre and I am serving as the co-conference chair for the 2011 Georgia Tech Global Leadership Conference. The Global Leadership Conference is a project I undertook last year with the objective to equip Georgia Tech students with the skills to be successful in the global world and provide a forum for topics such as cross cultural communication. Georgia Tech has been a leader in contributing to the dynamic nature of the community by being listed as one of the nation’s top institutions that award engineering , physical science, and architecture degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level to all minority students including African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans, by “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.” As great as this diverse campus is, more can be done to unify the Georgia Tech community and we hope that this conference takes a step towards that objective. Currently, the conference is scheduled to be on Saturday, April 9th starting at 10:00 am.

I believe that this conference is a platform for members of your organization to engage in some of the values that Georgia Tech wants its students to experience. Some of the key features of the conference are:
$8 registration fee that includes breakfast, lunch and conference souvenir.
Four engaging workshops focusing on future energy sources, digital media bringing global change, emerging markets and global social entrepreneurship.

Pittcon 2011

Pittcon (http://www.pittcon.org/) is the world's annual premier Conference and Exposition on laboratory science. It is organized by The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, a Pennsylvania not-for-profit educational corporation which is comprised of the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP).

Pittcon attracts nearly 20,000 attendees from industry, academia and government from 90 countries worldwide and is managed by a committee of volunteers and a 10-person staff. Proceeds from Pittcon fund science education and outreach at all levels, kindergarten through adult.

The organizing committee is looking for some student aides (graduate students or undergraduates) to assist with Pittcon 2011 over a few days (at the students’ convenience) during Conference Week.

In return for working at least two days for approximately four hours per day, students aides will be eligible for:

Free registration
Free lunch and dinner on the days they work
Free short courses
All the excellent educational and networking opportunities that Pittcon has to offer!
In return for recommending some students, you, as a faculty member, will be eligible for free registration at the Conference.

Students need to be available to work four hours for at least two days of the Conference (Sat. March 12th, Sun. March 13th, Mon. March 14th, or Thurs. March 17th -- these are the dates on which we have needs).
