Job Summary
Perform all aspects of analytical chemistry. This will include testing on a variety of analytical equipment and instrumentation, such as GC, IC, DSC, etc. supporting research & development. Also will support technical service and customers as needed. Will maintain equipment. Polymer characterization analysis will be conducted, and so polymer experience is preferred.
Level: This person could come in at the level of a Bachelor degree chemist, or could come in at the level for a Master's degree chemist.

Annual Resume Blitz Hosted by Career Services-Sept. 4th,5th & 7th!

Career Services will again host its Annual Resume Blitz September 4th, 5th and 7^th, where we invite industry experts and partners to critique student resumes prior to the Fall career fair (September 10th & 11th) and on-campus recruiting (September 11th -  November 16th).  

Based on feedback received from our participants, we have reduced the number of resume critique locations which will allow us to serve a larger number of students and accommodate a greater number of company representatives willing to support our students by volunteering their time and expertise. As a result, we are pleased to inform you that College of Sciences (CoS) students will be served in the Klaus Building Atrium on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, starting at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.

The Clinical Chemistry Branch at the National Center for Environmental Health, CDC is performing research in the area of environmental biomonitoring. Biomonitoring is the measurement of chemicals in human samples and provides information on the amount of chemical that actually gets into the body. The results of biomonitoring are used to help make decisions about how best to protect people from diseases, birth defects, disabilities, dysfunction, or death.

We are currently working on projects in the area of reactive chemicals such as acrylamide, ethylene oxide, formaldehyde, in the area of trans-fatty acids and in the area of chronic diseases using mass spectrometry based methods.  The main goal of these projects is to develop rugged and automated analytical methods to measure human exposure to these chemicals in population studies.  Other objectives include the addition of other compounds of interest into current methods, and the testing and application of new tools to quantify compounds of public health interest. 

We are seeking a candidate with a BS degree in sciences (Minimum GPA: 3.0) with experience in analytical, organic and biochemistry, if possible. Experience in handling of biological samples, extraction, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry is a plus.  This fellowship will provide the opportunity to obtain hands-on experiences in measuring environmental chemicals and to learn more about environmental public health activities.  The incumbent will work in a CLIA regulated environment and will perform research using state-of-the-art laboratory equipment.

Duties include but are not limited to working with biological samples, aliquoting of materials for future use, sample preparation using different extraction techniques, routine operation of liquid handling instruments, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometers, data review, statistical data analysis, preparation and purification of materials that are used as standards for the methods.  Good interpersonal and communications skills are required.  The applicant should be willing to perform tasks assigned in a timely manner, keep accurate records of experiments performed in compliance with CDC`s policies and procedures. Good organizational and computer skills are required.

This fellowship is administered through the Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education (ORISE). The duration of this fellowship appointment is 1-3 years. The stipend depends on grades and qualifications and follows those stated in federal salary tables (GS tables). The workplace is located in Atlanta, GA. Undergraduate Research Position

Undergraduate Researcher Position in the Reynolds research group

Summer and Fall 2012

The Reynolds research group is looking to hire an undergraduate researcher for their electrochemistry/spectroscopy laboratory to work over the Summer and Fall semesters, at a minimum.  This position would be involved in the conjugated polymer electrochemistry research projects within the group that cover polymer electrochromics.  Experiments would involve applied electrochemistry, spectroscopy, polymer film processing, morphology characterization, and inert atmosphere glovebox use.  Please contact Dr. Aubrey Dyer (aubrey.dyer@chemistry.gatech.edu) for more information.

CHARGEDMAGAZINE.ORG is an edgy, snarky, silly online magazine about how science and studying science (and math and engineering) affects people.  We are currently seeking students, faculty, and staff (and non-GT people!) who are interested in writing for Charged Magazine or contributing in other ways over the summer and in the 2012-2013 academic year.

CHRISTINE MIRZAYAN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY POLICY GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM ANNOUNCES ITS 2012 FALL SESSION AND CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

This Graduate Fellowship Program of the National Academies—consisting of the National Academy of
Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council—is an
early career educational and training opportunity. It is designed to engage its Fellows in the analytical
process that informs U.S. science and technology policy. Fellows develop basic skills essential to working or
participating in science policy at the federal, state, or local levels.

Eligibility
Graduate and professional school students and those who have completed graduate studies (degree
awarded) within the last five years are eligible to apply. Areas of study may include any social/behavioral
science, medical/health discipline, physical or biological science, any field of engineering, law/business/public
administration, or any relevant interdisciplinary field.
The program takes place in Washington, D.C. and is open to all U.S. and non-U.S. citizens who meet the
eligibility criteria. Non-U.S. citizens who are not U.S. legal permanent residents must be currently enrolled in
a U.S. university and have proof of holding valid J or F-1 status or work authorization.
